What is Microsoft 365 (OneDrive, Teams, Bookings, etc) and how do I use it?

Northwood University students and educators are eligible for Office 365 Education for free, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and now Microsoft Teams, plus additional classroom tools

▸Microsoft OneDrive for Business

Northwood users receive 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage space completely FREE. Use it to store your work or school files across multiple devices with ease and security. Share your files with colleagues and classmates as needed, and edit Office documents together in real-time with Office Online. Information Technology strongly encourages our users to utilize this free 1TB of storage space versus other cloud storage solutions like Box, Google Drive, or Dropbox.

  1. Go to https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/signin/
  2. Enter your full Northwood email address (username@northwood.edu)
    • If it prompts you, choose Work or School Account
  3. You will be redirected to the Northwood University login page
  4. Sign in with your Northwood University credentials
    Note: If you are already signed into Blackboard, you will go directly to Microsoft OneDrive

▸Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration hub for Northwood University Faculty and Staff where all conversations, meetings, files, and notes can be accessed by everyone, all in one place. With an interface reminiscent of social media chat clients, like Facebook or Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams is a place for collaboration and work to happen freely, easily, and in the open.

  1. Go to https://teams.microsoft.com
  2. Enter your full Northwood email address (username@northwood.edu)
  3. You will be redirected to the Northwood University login page
  4. Sign in with your Northwood University credentials

▸Help! I deleted content in Microsoft Teams

You have access to files version history and can recover deleted files for up to 93 days from the Teams/SharePoint Recycle Bin.

  1. Open Teams
  2. Click your Team
  3. Click the Teams file tab
  4. Click Open in SharePoint in the menu to launch the Document Library in SharePoint
  5. Click Recycle Bin
  6. Select the file you need to restore
  7. Click Restore

Now it's quite easy to check the version history, restore a previous version, or head into the Recycle Bin to recover a deleted item. Permissions of course apply as they always do in SharePoint and you'll need to have the appropriate permission levels to restore version history or recover files from the Recycle Bin.
