How to give individual students additional time for a test

Test availability exceptions

You can make test exceptions for individual students or groups. Use exceptions to provide an accommodation to a student who is disabled or for technology and language differences. Example: For a test with a 30-minute time limit, you can allow 60 minutes for a student who requires additional testing time due to accommodations documented with student disability services. If the following settings have been applied to the test, you can create these exceptions for individual students:

  • Number of attempts
  • Timer
  • Availability

Once you have set up test options for the number of attempts, time limit, and date/time availability for the entire class, you can add exceptions for a student by following these steps:

  1. Edit the Test Options for the desired Blackboard test
  2. In the Test Availability Exceptions section, click the Add User or Group button
  3. Select the desired student, then adjust the attempts, time limit, and/or availability dates/times for that student. Continue adding additional student exceptions as needed.
  4. Click Submit when finished.
