How do I get Microsoft Office on my personally owned device?

Northwood University is providing Microsoft Office to our faculty, staff, and student's PERSONAL HOME COMPUTER(S) AND/OR MOBILE DEVICE(S) free of charge. As long as you're an employee or current student at Northwood, and the program continues, you'll be able to use this software for FREE on up to 5 personal devices. Per Microsoft's license agreement, Office 365 University is available to full- and part-time enrolled students, faculty, and staff of qualified, accredited higher education institutions. Alumni of these institutions aren’t eligible.

  1. Visit
  2. Type in your Northwood email address (i.e.
  3. Enter your Northwood password
  4. Press the Install button (You may need to select a Language before choosing install)
  5. After installation, you will be prompted to activate.
  6. Choose the second option (log in with your subscription).
  7. Enter your full email address (
  8. Click Next
  9. Choose the second option, organizational account
  10. Enter your Northwood password
  11. The activation should complete. (Note: If the activation screen pops up again, simply re-login using this same process.)

NOTE: Office installs the 32-bit version on your PC by default, even if your computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you are unsure which version of Office you should install, see Which version is best for me?
