How to Give Students Another Attempt for Bb Assignments and Tests

If you would like to grant a student a new attempt for a Blackboard Assignment or a Test, follow the instructions below to either remove the previous attempt or add an additional attempt to the user’s record. (*Note: these instructions do not apply to TurnIt-In assignments).

  1. Go to your course's Control Panel > Grade Center > Full Grade Center
  2. Scroll to the Test/Assignment you wish to clear/ignore or add additional attempt (available for assignments)
  3. For the student who previously submitted an attempt, place your cursor over their cell and use the drop-down button that appears to select View Grade Details
  4. Select which action you wish to process for granting student a way to submit another attempt
    • Clearing an attempt will remove the attempt completely from the system
    • Ignoring attempt will retain the attempt but will not be calculated into the Grade Center or count against the number of allowed attempts
    • Add additional attempt adds another attempt to the student’s record to allow for an additional submission, any of the attempts can then be graded (this option only appears for Bb assignments)
  5. A pop-up will appear to confirm your chosen action
  6. The student will now have the ability to submit a new attempt.

Note: If the date/time settings on the assignment or test have made the item no longer available, or the folder where the item lives is no longer available, you will need to re-open it to allow the student to submit another attempt.
