How do I map a department network share drive or missing S: Drive?

  1. Press the Windows key () on your keyboard (lower left of the keyboard between Ctrl and Alt)
  2. Type in This PC in the Search Windows field
  3. Click on the Computer tab 
  4. Click Map Network Drive
  5. In the Drive list, select a drive letter. (Any available letter will do)
  6. In the Folder box, type the path of the folder or computer
    • Administrators should use \\miadmin\username(Replace the username with your username)
    • Faculty and Students should use \\mistudent\username(Replace the username with your username)
    • Use the backslash key ( \ ) found above the enter key
  7. Make sure to click the Reconnect at sign-in check box if you wish to connect every time you log on to your PC
  8. Select Finish

  7. Make sure to click the Reconnect at sign-in check box if you wish to connect every time you log on to your PC
  8. Click Finish 
    • If you have more than one department share drive, repeat the above steps and choose an empty drive letter
    • If this is a newly created share drive or you get an error message when mapping, you will have to log out and log back in and repeat the steps
    • If you can't connect to a network drive or folder, you may not have the correct permissions. Contact your supervisor so they can request access on your behalf
Map a Missing Drive

  5. Go to System Preferences
  6. Choose Users & Groups
  7. Select your account on the left-hand panel
  8. Choose Login Items
  9. Select thesign to add an item
  10. Under the shared panel choose miadmin 
  11. Click on your share drive name (username$)
  12. Select Add
  13. Your share drive will now appear in the login items list and be automatically connected after logout/shutdown
