Windows Computer
Connect to the on-campus admin network or use
VPN
if off-campus
Open File Explorer by pressing the
Windows key
(
)
+ E
key
Right-click
This PC
in the left column or go to
View > Show >Navigation Pane
Click
Map Network Drive
Choose S: for the
Drive
letter
In the
Folder
box, t
ype your personal share drive path
Administrators should use
\\miadmin\username$
(replace username with your specific username followed by $)
Faculty and Students should use
\\mistudent\username$
(replace username with your specific username followed by $)
Ensure the path is accurate, using the backslash key ( \ ) located above the enter key
Check
Reconnect at sign-in
if you want it to connect every time you log into your PC
Click
Finish
Mac Computer
Make sure you are on-campus and connected to the admin network
If you are off-campus, you must connect to the admin network using
VPN
Open
Finder
Hit
Command
and
K
key
Type in
smb://miadmin/
username
$
(Replace the username with your username)
Select
Connect
Go to
System Preferences
Choose
Users & Groups
Select your account on the left-hand panel
Choose
Login Items
Select the
+
sign to add an item
Under the shared panel choose
miadmin
Click on your share drive name (username$)
Select
Add
Your share drive will now appear in the login items list and be automatically connected after logout/shutdown
Add (map) a group/department share drive
Windows Computer

Choose a
Drive
letter
(Any available letter will do)
In the
Folder

ype the department share drive path provided to you by your supervisor
Example
\miadmin\sharedrivename$
(replace sharedrivename with the actual name of the department share followed by $)
Ensure the path is accurate, using the backslash key ( \ ) located above the enter key
Check
Reconnect at sign-in
if you want it to connect every time you log into your PC
Click
Finish
For multiple group department share drives, repeat steps with a different letter
If it's a newly created share drive or errors occur, log out of your PC, log in, and retry the steps above
If connection issues persist, you may not have the correct permissions. Contact your supervisor so they can request access on your behalf

If you have more than one department share drive, repeat the above steps and choose an empty drive letter
If this is a newly created share drive or you get an error message when mapping, you will have to log out and log back in and repeat the steps
If you can't connect to a network drive or folder, you may not have the correct permissions. Contact your supervisor so they can request access on your behalf
