How do I add my Northwood email on a personal device?

Northwood University encourages users to utilize their mobile devices to access information in their university mailbox. This includes e-mail messages, voice mail messages, calendar items, contacts and task data. 

The Microsoft Outlook App will offer the most consistent experience of any mail app, however, most mobile devices' native mail applications also support Exchange ActiveSync. Choose a link below to learn how to add your NU email to your specific mobile device.

  1. Tap Settings on the Home screen
  2. Tap Passwords & Accounts
  3. Tap Add Account 
  4. Tap Exchange
  5. Enter your full email address (username@northwood.edu)
  6. Enter a Description (not required)
  7. Tap Next
  8. Tap Sign In
  9. Enter your Northwood Password 
  10. Tap Sign In
  11. Tap Accept
  12. Choose what you would like to sync
  13. Tap Save
Your email should download after several minutes. 
NOTE: If your mail program is unable to find the settings and asks you to input additional information such as Domain and Server name, please press cancel and repeat the process until your device automatically finds the settings to complete your account.

  11. Type mail.northwood.edu in the Server box if you are STAFF/FACULTY. 
  12. Type your full email address (username@northwood.edu) in the Username box
  13. Type your Northwood Password that you use to login to my.northwood.edu
  14. Tap Next
  15. Choose what you would like to sync
  16. Tap Save
Your email should now download. The first download can take several minutes. 
NOTE: If your mail program is unable to find the settings and asks you to input additional information such as Domain and Server name, please press cancel and repeat the process until your device automatically finds the settings to complete your account.
NOTE:  Android devices vary from one another and the exact steps may slightly be different
  1. Open your app tray and click on Settings
  2. Locate and click on Accounts
  3. From here click on Accounts
  4. Then select Add Account
  5. Select the Email option
  6. Select Exchange or Corporate
  7. Enter your full email address (username@northwood.edu)
  8. Enter your Northwood Password 
  9. Tap Manual Setup
  10. Update the Domain/Username field to reflect your full email address (/username@northwood.edu)
  11. Input the appropriate Server information
  12. Click Next
  13. On the Remote security administration popup, tap Apply
  14. Choose which items you would like to synchronize and tap Next
  15. On the Phone Administrator screen select Activate
  16. Edit Account Name (optional)
  17. Select Done
Your email should now download. The first download can take several minutes. By default, only the last 3 days of data will sync.
NOTE: Some devices will automatically download a security profile and ask you to accept it. Please click on allow or install and your device should start to sync.
The IT Help Desk does not assist or support users in setting up their Northwood University email account on their home computer's Outlook software.  Instead, we encourage all end users to log in to Blackboard and use the Webmail tab to check their university email or sync their mobile devices with their NU account as shown above.
