We highly recommend that you use a COMPUTER () and MOBILE DEVICE () to register for MFA/SSPR (instead of only using a mobile device).
- On a computer, visit https://aka.ms/setupsecurityinfo (if you have not already been prompted to register upon logging into an Office365 app like Outlook (WebMail), OneDrive, Teams, etc
- On your computer, a "More information required" notification will pop-up on your screen, click Next
- On your mobile device, install the Microsoft Authenticator App from the App Store
- NOTE: If you don’t want to use the Authenticator App (although it's the easiest and recommended method), click “I want to set up a different method" and choose EMAIL or SECURITY QUESTIONS for this option
- On your mobile device, open the Microsoft Authenticator app where you'll see a "Your privacy matters" screen, choose I Agree
- On your mobile device, while still in the Microsoft Authenticator App choose Work or school account > Scan QR Code
- If you don't have any other accounts listed in the Microsoft Authenticator App move to step 6, if you do have other accounts listed remove any that are Northwood (click the account > hit the settings gear>remove account) now you can choose the + button in the upper right hand corner of the Microsoft Authenticator App then choose Work or school account > Scan QR Code
- On your mobile device, if you have never used the Microsoft Authenticator App you will receive a notification asking if you allow the app to use your camera, choose OK
- Android devices we recommend you choose "While using the app" after hitting OK from the step above
- On your computer's "Keep your account secure - Set up your account" browser window, click Next
- On your mobile device, use the Microsoft Authenticator app to scan the QR code listed on your browser window
- On your mobile device, if you have never used the Microsoft Authenticator App you may receive a notification asking if you allow the Authenticator app to send you notifications, if so choose Allow
- On your computer's "Keep your account secure - Scan your QR code" browser window, click Next
- On your mobile device, a push notification from Microsoft Authenticator app will ask you to enter the number shown on your screen
- In some cases, when you choose Approve you may be prompted to verify your identity on your mobile device by using a passcode, fingerprint or faceID
- On your computer's "Keep your account secure - Let's try it out" browser window, click Next
- The Microsoft Authenticator app is now configured and will ask you to enter a phone number as a security method - use the steps below to setup your Phone
NOTE: To prevent getting locked out of your accounts, keep the Microsoft Authenticator App on your device and setup multiple security methods below.
Some devices have been set by users to delete unused/inactive apps after a select period of time. If your device is set up this way, turn off this setting to prevent deletion of the Microsoft Authenticator App, which might fall into the "unused" category if you checked the box for MFA to remember you for 90 days.
