License Eligibility

A Microsoft Employee A3 education license will be assigned to Northwood University employees for as long as the Microsoft agreement continues. After an employee separates from Northwood University, all files will become read only and the user will not be able to create new files or edit existing files without obtaining a personal license directly from Microsoft.

License Eligibility

A Microsoft Student A3 education license will be assigned to Northwood University students for up to 1 year after their most recently registered semester or as long as the Microsoft agreement continues. After a student stops attending Northwood University, all files will become read only and the user will not be able to create new files or edit existing files without obtaining a personal license directly from Microsoft.

Employee A1 Licensing Features 

Does the A1 License include the Microsoft 365 download benefit on my personally-owned device?

Per Microsoft's license agreement, Microsoft 365 is not included with the A1 license benefit. If you wish to use the installed Windows or macOS desktop applications of Microsoft 365, you will need to purchase a new Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

To purchase a new Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, visit www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products. You will first be prompted to sign in with a free Microsoft account. Once an account has been created you'll then be able to purchase your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

You will need to uninstall the desktop applications of Office from your Windows or macOS device(s) if previously installed. You will then need to install a new copy of Microsoft 365 using your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription (instructions for both Windows and macOS).

A Microsoft Employee A1 education license will be assigned to Northwood University Emeritus users for as long as the Microsoft agreement continues.

Alumni Features

Are alumni eligible for Microsoft 365?

No—under our Microsoft agreement, Northwood alumni are only eligible for a free alumni email account hosted by Microsoft.

What This Includes:

• A free alumni Microsoft account for accessing email
• Continued access to your Northwood University email via Outlook Web Access (OWA) remains active as long as you update your password every six months. You’ll receive reminders 30, 14, 7, and 1 day before it expires. If not updated, your account and all emails will be deleted

What This Does NOT Include:

• Access to Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint ends upon graduation
• Alumni wishing to continue using Office applications must purchase a personal license directly from Microsoft
