How do I report suspicious email, text message or phone call, stop receiving spam email, block a sender and/or move low priority to your inbox?

Information Technology utilizes Proofpoint and InfoSEC, which are enhanced email monitoring software tools, that better protects your Northwood University inbox from spam, malware, and viruses. These tools also places junk emails and advertisements in a “Low Priority Inbox” folder and allow users to report suspicious emails.

You may want an email that ends up in the Low Priority inbox to be delivered to your regular inbox. For example, you may want the Chronicle or Wall Street Journal emails to be sent to your regular inbox. Or there may be emails that show up in your inbox that you want to be delivered to the Low Priority folder. There are several ways you can direct a message to be delivered:

  • Drag and Drop the message from your inbox to the Low Priority Inbox or Quarantine folder under the Proofpoint or vice versa (Figure A)
  • Click Email Feedback located in the Outlook ribbon. Select Move to Low Priority Inbox or Delete and Block Sender from the menu (Figure B)

Results from redirecting your email:

  • Inbox - moves the message to this folder and future messages from this sender will automatically be placed here
  • Low Priority Inbox - moves the message to this folder and future messages from this sender will automatically be placed here
  • Delete and Block Sender - deletes the message and future messages from this sender

Any method that you use to take action on a message displays a dialog box to confirm your choice.

We strongly encourage you to glance at emails located in your Proofpoint folder on a weekly basis to ensure that Proofpoint isn't accidentally blocking an email or sender that you may recognize.
